Explore 12th Street

12th Street has long been a community of its own, one that grew along this early road connection where a streetcar line once ran. Today, ‘eclectic’ is the word to describe New Westminster’s 12th Street neighbourhood. With wide sidewalks and quaint, eco-friendly street lamps this is a walkable community sprinkled with ethnic eateries and second-hand shops.

At the corner of 12th Street and 10th Avenue you’ll find Shine Wellness (948 12th Street), a space that offers assistance and resources on all areas of personal wellness that encompass a holistic essence. The newly opened wellness space is dedicated to the truth about beauty and what it takes to be the star you were meant to be in this life.

Across the street, you'll discover Amber's Choice (909 12th Street), a cozy cafe that feels like "moms" kitchen. Amber's Choice creates all menu items from scratch offering organic coffee, daily baked goods and comfort entrees. A short walk down the street you’ll find Ole Ole Restaurant (831 12th Street) an award-winning Mexican eatery. Enjoy steak rancheros, enchiladas and more, all complete with huge helpings of rice, refried beans, chips and fresh-cut salsa. Neighbouring Neil Douglas Guitar Shop (829 12th Street) is a historic goldmine for guitar connoisseurs.

Also on 12th, Gabor Gasztonyi Studio & Gallery iconic photography graces the walls of his West End studio and gallery (730 12th Street). Prepare to step onto the boisterous streets of Havana or the quiet lanes of the Cariboo as you peruse his diverse collection of black and white portraits and fine art prints.

Wine enthusiasts are in for a treat. Pacific Breeze Winery (6-320 Stewardson Way), a family owned and operated "Garagiste" (Garage Winery,) the first in Canada, is located in New Westminster’s West End. This international award-winning winery produces hand-crafted, small lot wines and is open Monday through Saturday. Drop in for a wine tasting!

Complete your West End excursion with a pint at the newly renovated Terminal Pub (established in 1940,) or grab a brew and then bowl at the Thirsty Duck and Lucky Strike Lanes, both New Westminster fixtures located at the corner of 12th Street and 6th Avenue.

If you’re in town this summer, be sure to join in the community-led 12th Street Festival held in August.
