New Westminster School District: A Canadian Leader in International Education

The New Westminster School District is a leader in Canadian international education. We have been hosting international students since 1987, and we were one of the first public school districts in Canada to begin accepting international students. Today, we welcome students from all over the world into our various long-term and short-term programs. To ensure that each of our students has a positive and memorable study-abroad experience, we offer comprehensive support services including English-language classes, homestay placement, counselling, and translation.

Programs of Study: Quality Canadian Education

Long-term Programs: Elementary, Middle and Secondary The International Education Program provides long-term academic studies for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 (ages 5–18). We have several long-term programs, allowing students to study for one semester, one year, or to complete high school. International students can enter the school in either September or February.

Long-term students will have a deep immersion experience. Their spoken and written English improves rapidly, and they become comfortable with the Canadian lifestyle, culture and education system.

Short-term Programs

Short-term programs include English Study Tours, Academic English Intensive Program, and Customized Group Programs. Each program combines practical language training with appropriate educational activities that meet student interests.

Support for International Students

Support services for international students at New Westminster School District include homestay placement, orientation, counselling and medical insurance. Arranged additional support services are available from the multilingual team in the International Education Program Office, which is located in New Westminster Secondary School.

All homestay families are carefully selected by the homestay manager through a rigorous process that includes a written application form, personal interviews, a home inspection, and reference checks.
