This year is the 150th anniversary of Canada becoming the country it is today. Celebrate Canada’s national birthday with a host of multicultural festivities, live music, and kids’ activities.

The fun is capped off by a “Celebration Fireworks” spectacular over the Fraser River that will light up the night sky and leave everyone captivated. To celebrate Canada’s 150th, there are many extra, special events taking place this year. Stay tuned for details!

Get Trucked Up in Downtown New West on July 29th, 2017! The Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Festival is the province’s largest food truck festival! It features over 50 different food trucks, beer gardens, entertainment, all wrapped up in a super fun street party. Easily accessible via SkyTrain and free admission!

Fridays on Front is a new weekly event to help celebrate the redevelopment of Front Street. Every Friday night through the summer (starting July 7th), come down and enjoy live music, artisan vendors, and delicious food trucks. Even better, the area is fully licensed and will have Vancouver’s first bar truck, the Vagabond Bar Truck, serving local products Steel & Oak beer and Pacific Breeze wine.

The annual Heritage Homes Tour and Tea includes 14 venues that feature an eclectic mix of residential and commercial properties – from one of the first houses built in Queen’s Park in 1891 – to a mid-century modern church built in 1959.

LitFest New West started in 2009 as the Royal City Book Festival. The objective of the Royal City Book Festival was “to showcase the wonderful work that is going on mostly behind the scenes”. The interest in the festival was huge and the festival grew yearly in scope. Come and enjoy a wide range of presentations, workshops, performances and exhibitions the ideal way to get your word fix.

Momentum Youth Arts Movement aims to celebrate and promote youth artists by giving them a place to display and perform their art for their peers and community.

Momentum Youth Arts Festival is to be the new moniker for the festival formerly known as Yam Jam.

With a revamped planning and organizing structure, one now entirely envisioned and driven by youth, the annual festival aims to spark a new creative energy for all to enjoy.

Presented by the Arts Council of New Westminster and produced by Massey Theatre, Momentum Youth Arts Festival is programmed, organized and driven by youth. The Momentum Youth Panel consists of seven youth from New Westminster steering the arts programming for the festival. The key community partners supporting the youth’s efforts are; Arts Council of New Westminster, Massey Theatre, NWSS Fine Arts Department, City of New Westminster Youth Services, and SD 40 Community Schools.

Over the three day weekend youth will gain important public exposure and experience, learn through visual and performing arts, and celebrate individuality and the creative voices of youth.

Westminster Pier Park

Music by the River is a weekly event happening every Thursday this July. It runs from 5 to 8 pm, and features a variety of musicians performing at Westminster Pier Park. The entire park has been licensed, meaning you can get your Steel and Oak beer and walk around listening to all the great entertainment throughout the pier.

The City of New Westminster has long committed to being a creative and vibrant city and its residents have put the Royal City on the cultural map by creating galleries, theatres and historical venues that invite residents and visitors alike to discover our unique history and locally-created works of art.

This two-day event on August 12th & 13th will include open studios and local artists featuring their work and presenting live paint-ins at your favourite arts, culture and heritage destinations around the city. Festivities begin at 11 am and run until 5 pm both days.

Venues are organized in convenient neighborhood clusters including Sapperton, Downtown, Uptown, Victory Heights and Queensborough. Produced by Van Dop & Associates, Arts Council of New Westminster and the BC Cultural Crawl.
